Mesothelioma and Exposure to Asbestos Claims

Visit our main website for information and resources regarding asbestos exposure, related illnesses, and compensation.

Mesothelioma is a rare and deadly cancer that develops after exposure to asbestos.  While any amount of asbestos exposure can cause mesothelioma, exposure in occupational settings can greatly increase the likelihood of developing the cancer.  Unfortunately, U.S. military servicemen and women, have a high risk of being exposed to asbestos.

Asbestos and asbestos-containing materials were commonly used in ships, aircraft, vehicles, and on bases across the country and the world, potentially exposing thousands of workers and servicemen, and women.

If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma after serving your country in the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, Marines, or Coast Guard, Bailey & Glasser, LLP can help.  Call today for a free and confidential case evaluation with our Asbestos & Lung Cancer team.

Asbestos Exposure in the Military

Depending upon the branch of service you or your loved one served in, the method of exposure may differ.  All branches used asbestos in the construction of military bases and installations before the 1970s and the material remained present in many bases decades later.

Navy and Coast Guard vessels are associated with significant levels of asbestos exposure.  Before the dangers of asbestos was fully understood, the material was used as a cheap and effective solution for fireproofing and heat resistance.  When ships were undergoing construction, repairs, or maintenance, damage or wear and tear of the materials caused asbestos particles to become airborne and be inhaled by workers and tradesmen.  On ships, these materials were used in areas with poor ventilation, allowing dust to collect in small areas, thus making ships extremely dangerous for sailors and those working below decks.

Similarly, the U.S. Air Force used asbestos in radar stations and aircraft, where the material made ideal insulation and heat protection.  Pilots and mechanics were at especially high risk of developing especially high risk of developing an asbestos related illness.

The U.S. Army and Marines also used asbestos in vehicles and base construction.  As with the Navy and Air Force, pilots, vehicle operators, and maintenance personnel were at higher risk.

Meet the Attorneys

Michael “Mickey” Robb

Michael “Mickey” Robb is based in Pittsburgh and is currently licensed in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He has over 20 years of experience handling asbestos litigation cases on behalf of men and women who have contracted asbestos-related diseases including Mesothelioma, Lung Cancer, Esophageal Cancer and Asbestosis. Michael has secured more than $90 million in court awards for his clients.

Since asbestos-related cancers take several decades to develop after a person inhales asbestos fibers, Michael prides himself on being able to investigate the client’s entire exposure history to determine where the client’s exposures to asbestos occurred. Most individuals are exposed to asbestos in an industrial setting like a steel mill, chemical plant, power plant, or factory. However, exposure to asbestos can occur in any setting including industrial, residential and school buildings.  With a very unique talent for knowing what types of products contain asbestos and an extensive understanding of how exposures occur at work, home, or even at school (K-12 and university buildings) Michael will then file suit against all responsible parties including the client’s employers that used asbestos containing products in the workplace as well as the manufacturer, supplier, or producer of asbestos containing equipment that the employer utilized in their operations.

Michael will also file suit against any responsible companies who sold asbestos-containing products which the client may have been exposed to in the home. Finally, Michael will do an extensive search to determine if the client attended any schools which were contaminated with asbestos building products and will file suit against the school district or university where the exposures occurred.

Asbestos cases are very complicated and Michael has an incredible drive and passion to bring justice on behalf of his clients and their families.  If you or a family member have been diagnosed with  Mesothelioma, Lung Cancer, Esophageal Cancer and Asbestosis call Michael today for a free consultation.
